1900s schooling

In the early 1900s the schooling was different to as we have in our society today, their punishment rules were extremely different. If you went to a private school the boys and girls were often in separate academies.  In the public schools they went a lot harder on the children then in the private schools. Often for punishment the teacher would hit them with a paddle or rulers. In 1904 children were meant to go to school until they were 16 but many didn’t finish school because they needed to go to work in the factories for their families. They did not have shoes or uniforms back then.

Our schooling today is way different and the punishment isn’t as strict, we do not get hit with anything because it would be classified as “child abuse” and that is now illegal. Our private schools are currently mixed genders and we finish school in grade 12 (17 years of age unless held back a grade) We now have uniforms assigned to us for different schools and it is compulsory to wear shoes and a hat to keep sun safe.
