British settlement

When we are talking about the effects that british had on Australia we have been influenced by Britain on a number of things like: The way we dress, most food, our government system and our sports we play. The british had the effect on this for us, we get most of our things from the british. We are a very multi cultural country but a variety of food is inspired by the british. The British had a really huge impact on the way the indigenous lived even wildlife.

1900s schooling

In the early 1900s the schooling was different to as we have in our society today, their punishment rules were extremely different. If you went to a private school the boys and girls were often in separate academies.  In the public schools they went a lot harder on the children then in the private schools. Often for punishment the teacher would hit them with a paddle or rulers. In 1904 children were meant to go to school until they were 16 but many didn’t finish school because they needed to go to work in the factories for their families. They did not have shoes or uniforms back then.

Our schooling today is way different and the punishment isn’t as strict, we do not get hit with anything because it would be classified as “child abuse” and that is now illegal. Our private schools are currently mixed genders and we finish school in grade 12 (17 years of age unless held back a grade) We now have uniforms assigned to us for different schools and it is compulsory to wear shoes and a hat to keep sun safe.

Immigration Restriction Act 1901

The immigration restriction act was an act of the parliament of Australia, which really limited immigration to Australia. This helped form the "White Australia Policy". This helped send back some illegal things and people. This helped the officers prevent people from coming into Australia. This act started a new range of federal crimes linking to immigration. Some illegal immigrants could be deported and put in jail for up to 6 months. The immigration restriction act stated that all immigrants had to sign in addition to 50 words in European language as directed by the officer. The immigration restriction act was eventually replaced by the migration act 1958. Although, the white Australian policy was not fully eliminated until 1973. Quote: "The Dictation Test was administered 805 times in 1902–03 with 46 people passing and 554 times in 1904–09 with only six people successful. After 1909 no person passed the Dictation Test and people who failed were refused entry or deported".

Why is this piece of legislation so important?

This piece of legislation  is important is we feel the need that we should stop illegal immigrants from coming into Australia.

How has it influenced modern Australian society?
It has influenced our society by preventing the illegal immigrants from coming to our country and getting away with importing illegally.

Racism today!

Racism is to do with people from a different culture being rude about another culture by talking disrespectfully about their skin tone, the way they talk, where their from, what they look like and jokes about their race. Being different is a good thing that some others may find bad, it is not known why but we are all a human been.Racism is not only about talking about the person itself but actually talking about what races are better at somethings then the others. Racists do not want to live in multi-racial societies, rather they want to love amongst their own kind.

Australia is an egalitarian society

Do you think that Australia is an egalitarian society?

Yes I believe that Australia is an egalitarian society because we show respect and display all of the quality’s that make us all equal, and our government can make us have equal rights to one another. It is belief that everyones equal and they all are equal no matter whats different about them.
